Dr Shivaune Wright, ND is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor, registered with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario. She earned a Bachelor of Naturopathy from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, as well as an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education from Wilfrid Laurier University.
Growing up, Dr Shivaune’s participation in sports fueled her passion for health, fitness and the human body and led her to pursue a kinesiology degree and career in personal training. After five years in this field and a strong desire to take people further in their health and fitness journeys, Shivaune was introduced to naturopathic medicine, and shortly thereafter, knew this was her calling.
Dr Shivaune had the opportunity to participate in a medical brigade in Nicaragua with Natural Doctors International, the oldest naturopathic global health organization in North America, bringing much needed care to the underserved community on the island of Ometepe. She also did a clinical rotation at the Parkdale Community Health Centre, bringing care to the underserved population of Toronto. Both experiences reiterated how powerful the basics of healthy living can be.
The majority of therapies that Dr Shivaune uses in practice are evidence-based, with the remainder being founded on clinically sound results. Dr Shivaune’s approach to health concerns and goals is two-tiered, whereby she a) takes into account each patient’s physical, mental, emotional, social and financial needs, and b) is results-focused. Her goal is to treat you as the unique and amazing individual that you are, and to help you feel better quickly, while addressing the underlying cause of your health disturbance.
Dr Shivaune’s positive experience of home-birthing her two children inspired her to wish to support and empower other women through the childbirth process as a Naturopathic Birth Doula. She aims to provide gentle and caring support, and help couples make informed and empowered choices, so that they can have beautiful and positive outcomes as they welcome their baby into the world. She has experience and is comfortable in all birth settings – home, hospital, birth centre, car (just kidding) – working alongside midwives, obstetrician/gynaecologists, nurses and other non-labouring partners to provide a safe and comfortable space for the labouring mother. Dr Shivaune sees it as a real honour to be invited into such a special time in one’s life, and it’s never lost on her how sacred this period is.
Dr Shivaune has a general family practice with an interest in perinatal and pediatric health, stress management, digestive and immune health, fertility, hormonal disturbances, detoxification, weight management. She is an active member of the Pediatric Association of Naturopathic Doctors and the Association of Perinatal Naturopathic Doctors.
When she’s not working with patients in the clinic, Shivaune can be found raising her two young boys, experimenting in the kitchen, with dirty hands in the garden, doing yoga, traveling, biking, and reading. She lives with her partner and their two children in the East end of Toronto.
